The American Society for Adolescent Psychiatry has served the psychiatric profession since 1967. Focusing on teen, adolescence, and young adult issues, ASAP acts both as a professional network for its members and a specialized community dedicated to education development and advocacy of adolescents and the adolescent psychiatric field.  

Membership in ASAP puts psychiatrists in touch with an informed cross-section of the profession from all over North America. There are currently fifteen constituent societies covering the entire continent. These include specific regional societies and a general society-at-large covering all other areas.

Adolescent Psychiatry and the Law

U.S. Supreme Court votes 5-4 in adolescent death penalty case
On March 1, 2005, the U.S. Supreme Court voted 5-4 in favor of Simmons in Roper v. Simmons, a case testing the constitutionality of administration of the death penalty to defendants who were under 18 at the time of their crime. Documents related to this case are below:
ASAP signs onto briefs for appellate court case
ASAP members recently signed onto briefs for Aid for Women v. Foulston, a case regarding sexual abuse of minors. Read the amicus brief here (375 KB PDF) and the appendix here (1.9 MB PDF).
 
ASAP signs onto briefs for U.S. Supreme Court case
ASAP recently signed onto briefs for the U.S. Supreme Court regarding 8th Amendment rights of defendants accused of committing crimes before reaching adulthood. Read the Supreme Court brief here. (PDF)
